'Ukulele Workshop
with Kimo Hussey and Tim Dang

  Our workshop will emphasize practice techniques and learning songs. The workshop will provide you workable, easy to apply practice techniques which will provide balance between left hand activity, right hand activity and adherence to applicable music theory principles. The overall goal is to reduce the amount of time it takes to learn new music.  Workshop is applicable to all levels of playing ability.

Kimo Hussey and Tim Dang form an incomparable combination of ukulele instruction backed by decades of facilitating workshops, live entertainment worldwide, professional recordings and great empathy for students interested in enhancing their enjoyment of music. Come with instruments tuned, ready for some hard work and all the capacity in the world to laugh and have fun!!!

Kimo Hussey, Executive Director of the Pacific Music Foundation, has 30 + years experience in training as well as facilitating workshops in various disciplines. He is degreed in music (choral conducting), published, recorded and quite experienced in vocal and instrumental performance worldwide. His knowledge and experience with the ukulele spans 50 years and has resulted in consistent and numerous invitations from friends, referrals, promoters and festival planners to share his music through concerts and workshops. Tim Dang has been playing music for over 30 years on instruments as diverse as the piano, flute, guitar, `ukulele and charango (a South American instrument made from the back of an armadillo). He has studied with the masters of Hawaiian music -- including George Kahumoku, Jr., Dennis Kamakahi, Cyril Pahinui, Ozzie Kotani, Daniel Ho and Herb Ohta, Jr. -- and works closely with Hawaiian music labels and artists to promote their music online and broaden their audience. Tim teaches and plays Hawaiian slack key guitar and `ukulele in San Francisco.

 

Feather Lei Workshop
with Herman Tachera

  Feather lei workshop includes lecture and all materials. We will be making a traditional feather lei using dyed goose feathers.

Your Instructor
Herman Tachera has been a Hawaiian feather artisan for the past ten years and has created numerous feather lei, kahili and 'uli'uli. He has studied his craft with Paulette Kahalepuna and Mary Lou Kekuewa, Michael Vieira and kumu hula Mark Keali'i Ho'omalu. He has received recognition and endorsement as a feather lei teacher from Hawaiian Feather Arts masters, Paulette Kalepuna and Mary Lou Kekuewa.

Saturday Evening Benefit Concert!  The Saturday evening outdoor dinner concert will be a benefit for ‘Ukulele Guild of Hawaii’s “Ukes for Kids” program and will feature Kimo Hussey Faith Ako and Tim Dang. The concert is being held in conjunction with the ukulele and feather lei workshops.  If you can't join us for the workshops be sure to join us for a great dinner and concert at an incredible setting in the wine country.

Ukulele Workshop Youth Scholarship!
Scholarship award: ukulele workshop fee.  Application Deadline: July 25th 2008.  

The scholarship is available to any youth between the ages of 16 and 24 that is currently engaged in an ukulele group or ukulele classes.  To submit an application simply email registration@hoomauukulele.com with your name, age, address, phone number, email address and reason why you or your nominee should be selected.  All applicants will be contacted by email on July 25th and the winner will be contacted by phone.
